Koulibaly set to leave Napoli
Everton target Kalidou Koulibaly looks set to leave Napoli, with his agent citing for ‘economic reasons’.
The Senegalese defender has been subject of interest predominantly from Chelsea and Everton, with the Merseyside club looking to replace Manchester City bound John Stones. It was reported that the Toffees are looking to outbid Chelsea, with Farhad Moshiri attempting to make a statement of intent this summer.
According to Koulibaly’s agent Bruno Satin, the player desires to leave the Naples club, citing ‘economic reasons’ as one of the key factors.
That I know of, he’s not about to renew and the future doesn’t look rosy. The player’s desire is to leave and the signs we’re receiving from Napoli don’t exactly pressure him otherwise.
We’ve decided to leave for economic reasons. After what happened to Higuain, though, Kalidou will not be leaving for Juventus or another competitor. Chelsea still want him and there’s time to close the deal.
After stating his desire to leave, it is now down to Chelsea and Everton to battle it out for the defenders signature. With Stones set to leave, the club will receive up to £50million in player sales which would generate enough money to seal a deal. Ronald Koeman’s experience as a central defender could be a plus point, though the pull of Antonio Conte’s new look Chelsea could persuade him to make the move to London.
With the season kicking off in just under three weeks, the clock is ticking.
