Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri hasn’t done much speaking in the public since investing in the Blues but earlier today, he appeared on TalkSport with Jim White and discussed a wide range of topics. Here’s what he had to say:
On the loss to Chelsea:
“The sheer pain of the loss on Saturday was immense. As majority shareholder, you feel responsible, it’s unbearable, I couldn’t get it out my mind!”
On when he first became aware of Everton:
“Everton came under my radar when Moyes was in charge. I was following the club, it’s just unique. I fell in love with it.”
On Bill Kenwright:
“Kenwright loves the club, you can’t speak to him when they lose. He kept the club for 19 years without any money.”
On Ronald Koeman:
“The North West was becoming the Hollywood of English football with Guardiola, Klopp and Mourinho. We needed a star to stand on the sideline, so we went and got Koeman!”
On the new stadium:
“The fans must know we have done the hard bit. We paid the debt [owed on Goodison], we are free to do what we want now. In our mind we know where we want to go, we are committed. We will reward our fans with a new stadium.”
On the sale of John Stones:
“I did what I could to keep Romelu and Stones. The three big stars were Stones, Barkley and Rom. Martinez promised Stones he could go in the summer.”
On the transfers that fell though:
“We tried to buy Koulibaly but they wanted £60million. Perez was ready to sign, Arsenal swooped in. Gabbiadini? We did everything, then they told us they didn’t want to sell.”
