The winter transfer window is coming very soon and Everton manager Ronald Koeman has got his own plans to build the squad. There have been a lot of rumours linking players to Everton, let’s hope that one or two materialise.
Koeman is eager to rebuild the current Everton squad, trying to sign players that fit his philosophy and style of play.
Everton are currently in not-so-impressive form after enduring a big loss against Chelsea. They haven’t won any of their last four matches and have only tasted victory once in their last nine outings.
Everton actually already have a pretty good and balanced squad this season. A solid starting eleven with capable young backups. But those players haven’t delivered their best and Koeman has certainly been left unsatisfied.
Everton have a pretty big chunk of money to spend in the coming transfer windows after British-Iranian businessman and investor Farhad Moshiri became the majority shareholder of Everton. In a recent interview, he said that he wanted Everton to build the squad with young players.
Here is a list of some of the young players that would be great signings for Everton in January.
Ryan Sessegnon (Left Back, 16 years old)
Everton are not really in shortage of left backs with Leighton Baines and several backups like Bryan Oviedo, Luke Garbutt, and Brendan Galloway (Garbutt and Galloway is still out on loan). But that doesn’t mean they don’t need any long term replacement. Ryan Sessegnon, who made history by becoming the youngest goalscorer in the Championship, has proved himself that he is ready to level up to play in Premier League.
Ryan has made a name for himself since impressing for the England U16 and U17 squads and has made eight appearances already for Fulham senior side.
He has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, so snapping him up in January would be a better option.
Joe Rankin-Costello (Central Midfield, 17 years old)
Everton already have Tom Davies and Liam Walsh but adding another youngster to the list wouldn’t hurt, would it? Joe Rankin-Costello came to Blackburn as a defender but has turned himself into a talented central midfielder. He is pretty versatile and could play as a full-back, a central defender and a defensive and attacking midfielder. Joe hasn’t made his senior debut for Blackburn but that doesn’t mean he is not impressing for Blackburn’s U23 side.
Rankin-Costello has been scouted by several teams in Premier League and would probably be available for the cheap.
Harry Chapman (Right/Left Winger, 19 years old)
Harry Chapman has impressed many since last season. He even caught the eye of Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka and Grant Leadbetter, who said that he was the most exciting talent in the academy.
Chapman impressed the most when he was playing for Middlesbrough U19 squad in the UEFA Youth League last season, contributing eight assists and three goals in just six games.
Harry Chapman has been widely regarded as ‘the next big thing’ and it would be a smart decision for Everton to make a move for him.
Andre Green (Right/Left Winger, 18 years old)
Andre Green is another highly rated winger and is seen as one for the future. Green is a fast-paced, agile and pretty prolific winger who has impressed for Aston Villa this season.
He has contributed 3 assists and 1 goal in 7 appearances this season for Aston Villa U23 squad and could be a shrewd signing for Everton, but they have to face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for the youngster’s signature.
Jonathan Leko (Striker/Right Winger, 17 years old)
Jonathan Leko is certainly not just another talent. He is special. He became the second youngest West Bromwich Albion player when he came onto the pitch against Sunderland last season.
He is pacey and has good control of the ball. He always gives the fullbacks a horrible time defending against his pace.
Jonathan Leko has also attracted interest from various big teams in Premier League, but it is highly recommended for Everton to sign him.
