Everton’s contract talks with Romelu Lukaku are reportedly holding up due to the club being keen on including a colossal £90 million buyout clause.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees are looking to meticulously manage the ins and outs of the proposed new deal for their prized asset, and that includes a largely untouchable release clause.

The report states that whilst sources were initially claiming that there would be a clause worth nearer to the £70 million mark, Everton are keen on ensuring that if a club does opt to go ahead and sign Lukaku, they’ll be smashing the current world transfer record.

Both Manchester United and Lukaku’s former club Chelsea are reported to have taken a keen interest in signing him this summer and are claimed to be willing to pay around the £70 million mark for him, but it looks as though Everton won’t let him go unless an astronomical figure is paid.
