Everton 2-1 Arsenal
Let’s start with the good.
In recent years, we have had some decent results vs the North London team, including a 3-0 mauling in 2014.
This game started off with the usual Goodison nervousness, and low and behold, Arsenal took the lead on the 20 minute mark with a deflected Alexis Sanchez goal.
The fact that we picked ourselves up after going behind against a very capable Arsenal team to claw back the game with a headed Seamus Coleman goal showed the fight that Ronald Koeman has instilled into our team.
We rode our look second half a little bit when Mesut Ozil should have scored to make the game 1-2. A great save from Petr Cech resulted in corner from which Everton went ahead with a header from Ashley Williams.
This game definitively changed the mentallity of the team with the notion we can come back and win games with the fight and passion we have.
Everton 4-0 Manchester City
Just look at the scoreline, it tells you everything you need to know about this game!
Manchester City may feel hard done to not to have a penalty but who are we to care?
Roomful Lukaku slotted home after good work from Kevin Mirallas down the right hand side. Mirallas made it two shortly after half time to double our lead.
Enter Tom Davies….
The lad from Liverpool certainly showed how he can mix it with the very best after making Yaya Toure look a bit foolish with a great back-heel en route to chipping the ball over Bravo to make it 3-0. Ademola Lookman made it four in the dying minutes after a John Stones gaff (sob…)
4-0 vs any Manchester City is deserved on a best performance list and this really was the game that got the Premier League watching.
Everton 6-3 Bournemouth
People may disagree, but lets face it EVERTON SCORED SIX GOALS IN A GAME!!!
The game was over…(or so we thought) within 30 mins after a quick fire double by Lukaku sandwiched in between a cool finish by James McCarthy (he definitely meant it).
After some Bobby Martinez-esque defending, the game was suddenly 3-2 with the Cherries heads firmly up.
What I will commend is that at 3-2, Joel Robles made a terrific save Harry Arter to keep our lead in tact only for Everton to go up the other end and make it 4-2 with Lukaku getting his hat trick.
Rom made it four, Arter made it 5-3 before Ross Barkley (with his celebration before the goal) put it beyond any doubt.
It showed once again that when we have our backs to the wall against a very capable side, we believe that we can sweep the teams away which is what we did here.
Chelsea 5-0 Everton
Well….
This game was one of the worst performances I have witnessed as an Everton fan and I have seen some disgusting Everton teams!
Five at the back to try and counteract Chelsea’s game plan just never worked.
The gulf in class showed and before we knew it, we were 3-0 down before half time.
I couldn’t tell you who was marking who, what Maarten Stekelenburg was doing for any of the goals and what our midfield was up to when Pedro and Eden Hazard were darting past them with ease.
We literally got taught a lesson in football and by the time it was 5-0, the players had just not bothered to even try.
Liverpool 3-1 Everton
If the Chelsea drubbing was terrible, this wasn’t far behind.
Koeman played the five at the back with a surprise call up for Matthew Pennington.
It didn’t work.
Letting Liverpool run at our defence was the first mistake without putting a foot in. If Pennington backed off Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho anymore, he would have been sat in the third row of the Anfield Road end.
1-0 became 1-1 after a goal from Pennington who looked to make up for his errors, only to be turned inside out by Coutinho to make it 2-1.
We offered nothing up top to even look like we were going to claw the lead back. Lukaku might as well of stayed at home, Ross was trying too hard and was even lucky to stay on the pitch after a horror tackle on Dejan Lovren.
Origi made it 3-1, after a calamity at the back with Ashley Williams at sixes and sevens before Joel Robles’ best Tim Howard impression after he let the ball fly past him without and kind of attempt
It pains me to admit, Liverpool were just the better side…
