For Everton, this season has been a step in the right direction and in other ways, it’s been the same old story.
That same old story is the desperation Everton have for a well rounded goalkeeper.
Joel Robles is, in my opinion, is the best goalkeeper at the club. That statement alone should be enough for Ronald Koeman to be on the look out for a new number one.
Nothing against Joel, he has had his moments but his moments of madness have came thick and fast too.
We thought we had found a decent stop gap in Maarten Stekelenburg at the beginning of the season….
Could we be more wrong? Probably not.
His heroics at Manchester City will not be forgotten but after that game, it came crashing down and the similarities with Tim Howard during his last season wouldn’t be far off the mark.
So Ronald and Steve, if you are reading…
Tom Heaton (Burnley)
This, for me, is an absolute no brainer!
He’s 31, he has bags of top-flight experience and he is a full England international.
Watching him first hand at Goodison Park this season, he showed how well he commands his box, constantly shouting at his defenders and he can save shots too, which helps!
Tom is a must for me and I think he would jump at the chance of the move.
Jordan Pickford (Sunderland)
It’s a tough job to be the Sunderland keeper and he has taken to the task with such ease.
Yes, they got relegated but this fella belongs in the Premier League. For such a young lad, his shot stopping is second to none.
Sunderland have said they don’t want to sell, but a bid in the regions of £20m would get Jordan and I think he would take the move.
Mattia Perin (Genoa)
Bit of a curve-ball one this, but from what I have seen from this man, I would take him over most current Premier League goalier.
Mattia Perin is quick and agile and young enough to adapt to the premier league.
If Genoa do drop to Serie B, this could be a buttons transfer, especially after he was injured for the rest of the season.
Joe Hart (On loan at Torino, Man City)
This lad goes without saying!
Still England’s number one and has bags of experience and medals to go with his superb goalkeeping skills.
Yes, he has the odd howler but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
Would take Joe over Fraser Forster or Jack Butland any day!
Jasper Cillessen (Barcelona)
Yes, he plays for Barca.
We signed Deulofeu from there though, bear in mind.
One league appearance and isn’t going to remove Ter-stergen, we could be tempting Cillessen with European football and also, a lot of game time
