McGeady set to depart Everton to join Championship side
Aiden McGeady is set to leave Everton and become Simon Grayson’s first signing as Sunderland manager, according to the Telegraph.
The Irish international is set to join up yet again with Grayson after spending last season on loan at Preston. The 31-year-old impressed at Deepdale, recovering some of the form he once showed. McGeady was awarded the SkyBet Championship Player of the Month for February after scoring three goals and making four assists.
McGeady made the move to Everton from Spartak Moscow in January 2014. He made his debut against West Bromwich Albion and saw most of his playing time come from the bench. Playing time was again reduced after Aaron Lennon was signed in January 2015.
He was completely frozen out of the team going into the 2015-16 season, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday on loan. McGeady made 13 appearances whilst at Hillsborough, being dropped for the Owls playoff campaign.
