Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley before they head off on their preseason tour of America, as per a report from Steve Bates of the Mirror.

However, Everton have set the asking price for the England international at £50m but Spurs are not prepared to go above £30m as Barkley is about to enter the final season of his contract.

Bates believes that the 23-year-old is keen to make a move to Tottenham, hence why he has rejected the chance to sign a new contract at Goodison Park, but the sticking point for the deal is the transfer fee.

With both clubs seemingly a long way apart in terms of their valuations of Barkley, it seems unlikely that a deal will be done before Spurs jet off to America, although we’ve seen things change very quickly with transfers in the past.
