The Daily Mail journalist claims that Barkley has had surgery on a hernia problem and will now miss four weeks of training.
This means that he will be absent for Everton’s start to the season and could affect a potential move away from the club.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are also said to be interested in the England international.
Barkley scored six goals in 39 games for Everton last season, featuring in 36 of the club’s 38 Premier League matches.
The 23-year-old has been at the club for 12 years – since he was 11 – and has amassed 179 appearances for Everton in that time.
