Everton close in on Sigurdsson
Everton look to be close to finally concluding a deal for Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to the Express.
The Toffees have chased the Iceland international for most of the summer, having so far been unsuccessful in their pursuit of the former Tottenham midfielder.
It was reported earlier this month that Everton had seen an initial offer of £40million rejected by the Swans, who maintained their determined stance to keep their star player in South Wales beyond the summer.
Sigurdsson refused to travel with the rest of the Swansea squad on their pre-season tour to USA a few weeks back over his uncertain future, however Swansea were convinced that he would not be sold unless their high price tag of £50million was met, something both Everton and Leicester City were not keen to do.
But according to the Express, Swansea may be close to conceding defeat in this long running saga.
Sigurdsson has made it clear to the Swansea hierarchy that he wants to move to Goodison Park, and the Express believe that Swansea are willing to compromise when they return from tour.
Everton are likely to submit a new offer of £40million plus £5million in bonus fees, and will offer Sigurdsson a 90k-a-week contract to move to Merseyside.
Sigurdsson’s signing would take the club’s spending over £130million.
