Koeman backing transfer window changes
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that he is fully behind the Premier League’s plans to close the summer transfer window before the start of the season.
A decision was made today after a vote by each top flight English club, and from next season onwards, the summer transfer window will slam shut on Thursday, August 9, 2018.
Although Koeman is still somewhat irritated by some facets that are involved in the current system regarding the windows, he has expressed his happiness in the changes that are set to be made.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Koeman said:
Let’s hope we can change this.If we do it in the Premier League and the rest of Europe doesn’t, we still have a problem. But the current system is crazy.
The system that will be put in place is being done to ensure that players are not unsettled before the beginning of the league campaign, therefore ensuring that transfer speculation does not affect their focus after the Premier League gets underway.
Vincent Janssen of Tottenham was going to leave Tottenham on transfer deadline day and on that day played for Holland against France. That’s crazy because then you don’t have that focus for the national team.
There are a lot more examples like the Janssen situation. That’s crazy. It’s unbelievable that can still happen. I don’t know why we can’t change it so everybody knows the squads they will have.
Koeman is clearly a fan of the change, which will see the window end near the start of August, as opposed to the end.
