Koeman taking the positives from Brighton draw
Everton manager Ronald Koeman is taking the positives from his side’s 1-1 draw away at Brighton.
As quoted by the Mirror, the Dutchman spoke of how he felt his team showed spirit in the closing stages to clinch a draw against the Seagulls despite going one down late on.
I take several good positives out of today. First of all the aggression, the commitment of the players. That is always what you need to show from the beginning. We know we can play a little bit better.
They [the players] showed commitment. If there is no commitment by one player it is my job to bring in other players, but they work so hard every day to get it right and it’s difficult, it’s not easy the Premier League; you don’t go to Brighton and get an easy win.
The hosts took the lead through a scrambled goal, converted by Anthony Knockaert with just seven minutes left to play.
However, Brighton defender Bruno gave away a penalty in the 88th minute, which was duly converted by Wayne Rooney as Everton came away with a point.
Despite their late equaliser though, the Toffees are sitting dangerously low on the Premier League table. With Everton in 16th place, Koeman has come under fire in recent weeks and is facing a lot of pressure.
We controlled the game, we defended well the direct play of Brighton. After half time, we again start well, we lost a little bit of domination in several situations, Brighton was dangerous.
Everton face a huge test on Thursday night, as they take on Lyon in the Europa League group stages at Goodison Park.
