Marco Silva has informed Everton to look elsewhere in their search for a new manager because he does not want to leave Watford so soon after joining.
The Times reports that Sean Dyche has become the out-and-out favourite for the job with Silva now out of the picture.
The new Watford boss had been linked with vacant Everton post after the Hornet’s impressive start to the season.
Despite being tipped by many for relegation, Silva’s Watford have lost just four of their opening 11 games, leaving them mid-table.
Dyche is believed to have been the club’s first-choice target from the moment they relieved Ronald Koeman of his duties at the club but both Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri have been torn between who to appoint.
The latter had been hoping for a higher-profile manager to take over while Kenwright is believed to be opting for a British manager.
