Everton could return for Porto defender
Everton could be set to make another attempt to sign Porto defender Ivan Marcano, according to Sport Witness.
Sport Witness, who cite Portuguese publication A Bola, claim that Everton failed in a last minute attempt to sign Marcano in the summer. Now, it is believed that the club could return with another attempt in January, with the 30-year old’s contract set to expire next summer.
Porto have so far failed to convince Marcano to sign a new contract with the club, and so looks likely to leave the Estádio do Dragão. However, Everton will face competition for his signature, with the Portuguese paper also claiming that Valencia and Inter Milan are both interested.
Marcano is a left-footed centre half who can also play left-back. He would certainly fit the profile of a player that the Toffees so desperately need, but they face a challenge to land him. With the club’s precarious league position, it could prove challenging, especially with Porto poised to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16.
