Jordan Pickford - 6
Not much to do yet again for Jordan. Distribution still hit and miss.
Jonjoe Kenny - 8
Well here’s your controversial opinion: Coleman shouldn’t be getting his shirt back. Kenny has gone from strength to strength in recent weeks and has developed an exhilarating partnership with Aaron Lennon down the right-hand side.
Mason Holgate - 7
Another composed display from Holgate who is an integral part of a defence that has conceded just 2 goals in 5 games.
Now, I don’t like commenting on poor refereeing that much, ’cause at the end of the day it’s an impossible job and they get enough abuse as is, but Holgate was on the receiving end of the single worst refereeing decision of the season (what bias?) and that limited his tackling game, but it showed just how composed he was to recover and still play exceptionally well after it.
Ashley Williams - 7
More of the same from Williams who, after a shaky first half hour, recovered well and dominated the Swansea attack in the second 45.
Cuco Martina - 6
Martina, while on the receiving end of a bit of a battering in the first portion of the match, seemed to pick his game up and looked composed during our spells of domination.
Idrissa Gana Gueye - 8
Gana was everywhere tonight, and that was just what we needed. He received his fair share of cuts and bruises for his troubles but always climbed back up and put in the shift that we all grew to know last season.
His tackling was back to its best and seemed to never lose a battle in midfield.
Morgan Schneiderlin - 3
He shouldn’t be in the side due to his own ability and, if the ability side of it doesn’t convince you, just look how much better we were when he was withdrawn.
He slows the game down far too much and seems to be unable to click with any of the team.
Wayne Rooney - 7
A poor first half for Rooney was followed up by a great string-pulling 25 or so minutes in which he assisted Sigurdsson’s wonder-goal and scored himself.
And regardless of the other 65 minutes, if Rooney guarantees a goal, assist or both every game then he’s a no brainer to start every week.
Aaron Lennon - 8
As I may have said on Twitter earlier:
Aaron Lennon is boss. That’s a fact.
To come back from the horrible things that were going on at the start of the season to be possibly our most important attacking outlet is a comeback story greater than any other, and he has thrown off his demons to come back an even better player than before it. Week-in, week-out he shows just how important he can be in creating something from nothing.
He won another penalty today and looked a danger whenever he breathed in the direction of the Swansea defence.
Keep it up, Aaron.
Gylfi Sigurdsson - 8
An excellent second half from the Iceman, the best point being the absolute thunderbastard (is that allowed? I hope it’s allowed) that he let fly to put us 2-1 up and we never looked back.
He followed that up with some smart through passes to Calvert-Lewin to craft some opportunities and dominated the left-hand side all evening.
He’s becoming an important player, and he is becoming the player that we need him to be.
My opinion is turning – and turning fast.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 7
DCL has a heroic workrate and his ability as a complete forward is up there with the best in the land at the moment.
He slotted home early on and that only gave him more confidence to tower over the helpless-at-times Swansea defence. He is becoming a proper Everton ‘Number Nine’ right before our eyes and we’re all right behind him.
Subs
Ademola Lookman – 5
Looked lively after he came on and was not afraid to have a real go at the Swansea backline.
Tom Davies – 7
Davies looked much more in control of his game than in recent weeks and livened up the whole team after he came on to replace Schneiderlin. His introduction liberated the pressure from Rooney and allowed Davies to have his freedom, and both looked the better for it.
Sandro Ramirez – N/A
