Everton are chasing after yet another midfielder in Benfica’s Rafa Silva, according to Portuguese sources.
Despite Everton seemingly having an abundance of central midfielders at the club as it is, you can never have enough – at least that’s the case if you believe the latest transfer rumour.
Portuguese outlet A Bola claim that the Toffees are considering a move for Portugal international Rafa Silva, and are prepared to pay £26.5million to complete the deal.
Given Gylfi Sigurdsson’s inconsistency this season, Wayne Rooney’s preference to play deeper, and Davy Klasseen’s complete failure to impress, Everton are looking for more attacking options from midfield to give them further goalscoring threats.
Able to play anywhere behind the striker, Silva would give the Toffees another option, but would do nothing to keep the club’s extortionate expenditure down.
If Everton are to move for Silva, it is expected that players will need to be moved on to make room in the squad.
Muhamed Bešić, who is currently on loan with Middlesbrough, has an uncertain future on Merseyside, while Klaassen is also on thin ice. Morgan Schneiderlin has also been linked with a summer switch, having so far endured a nightmare campaign of controversy and rotten form.
