Merseyside Derby date changed
Everton’s clash with Merseyside rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park has been moved back one day due to the Reds having European commitments in the UEFA Champions League.
The initial date for the match was Sunday 8th April at 2:30 PM but with Liverpool playing in the Champions League on Tuesday 10th April, the Derby has been moved back to Saturday 7th April at 12:30 PM.
Everton will be looking to take advantage of their rivals, who will have one eye on their Champions League quarter-final second leg against fellow Premier League side Manchester City.
The fixture change doesn’t really affect Everton too much, however, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been left disappointed and angry with the new schedule.
He said:
We play Wednesday night and then 12.30 on Saturday. Players get up on Thursday, they have training later in day, then Friday is secondary recovery, then Saturday is the game. If I can’t be angry about that, then I have to be politically correct and say nothing.
The Reds boss was hinting that his players may be suffering from fatigue for the clash with their closest rivals.
Everton host Manchester City at Goodison Park on the weekend before the Derby as Sam Allardyce and his squad gear up for two huge home fixtures.
