RB Leipzig want to sign Ademola Lookman on a permanent deal this summer, according to the club’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick.
The 20-year old Everton forward has impressed since he joined the Bundesliga outfit in January on loan, and Die Bullen would like to keep him ahead of next season.
Despite confirming the club’s interest, Rangnick did also confirm that Leipzig do not have any clause in the current loan deal that would allow them to buy Lookman, and that it would be up to Everton if any deal happens.
As quoted by ESPN, Rangnick had this to say;
If it were down to us, I’d already know the answer.
But it’s not only down to us. We have no clause in the contract.
I think that we can only answer the question once the season’s finished. It also depends on what happens at Everton.
Lookman has featured seven times in the Bundesliga since signing in the winter window, scoring twice, including in last weekend’s draw with Werder Bremen. Rangnick continued;
Mola has shown that he is more than just a desperate last-minute signing.
How he played during the second half at Bremen, I really liked that. And not only because he scored that goal.
Under Sam Allardyce, Lookman found opportunities extremely hard to come by. However, the current Toffees boss wasn’t keen to loan out the player to Germany in January – it was Lookman’s choice to go.
Allardyce had been lining up a temporary switch to Derby Country for the Under-20 World Cup winner, but the former Charlton Athletic youngster has proven he is more than capable of playing top-flight football.
