The former Manchester United captain is on the verge of a shock move to the MLS after his representatives travelled to Washington DC to hold talks with the club.

The Dailymail are reporting that Paul Stretford, Wayne Rooney’s agent, is negotiating a deal which, will see Rooney playing for DC United until the end of the 2020 MLS season.

Wayne Rooney made the decision to leave the club after becoming disillusioned with manager Sam Allardyce and his teams season long form. Rooney was played mainly as a midfielder, a decision that has aggravated the lifelong Everton fan.

Scoring 11 goals this season, with his most recent one before the turn of the year (December), Rooney has been told by the manager that he could not be guaranteed first-team football next season. Leading Wayne to seek greener pastures.

The acquisition of Wayne Rooney by DC United will coincide with their grand opening of their new Audi Field Stadium, with Rooney looking to be DC’s Marque signing this year.
