Everton battle West Ham for Tottenham outcast

Everton are trying to complete a late deal for Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon but face competition from West Ham, according to the Daily Mail.

Lennon impressed during his half-season on loan at Everton in the previous campaign and the Merseysiders have been continuously linked with a move to bring the Leeds United youth graduate back to Goodison Park permanently.

The pacy 28-year-old has fallen out-of-favour with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, so much so that he wasn’t even given a squad number for the new Premier League season.

West Ham United are also vying for the services of Lennon, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Slaven Bilic is keen to bring wingers to Upton Park and is believed to be closing in on Chelsea’s Victor Moses.

Everton signed Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona earlier in the window and were put off by Daniel Levy’s asking price of £9million for the former England star.

But with Tom Cleverley facing a spell on the sidelines the Blues look set to reignite their attempts to sign Lennon, who scored two goals while on loan at Goodison.

UPDATE: Aaron Lennon only wants to move to Everton and isn’t interested in a move to another club, according to the Mirror.

The 28-year-old winger wants a permanent return to Goodison Park and is prepared to run down his contract at White Hart Lane in order to get his move.

Daniel Levy wants around £9million for the winger who has just one year left on his current Tottenham deal, but the Tottenham may have to lower the price if he wants to former England star off the wage bill.
