Everton secured a place in the FA Cup Quarter-Final’s as they beat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this evening.
The Blues could have fallen behind in the first half when James McCarthy gave away a penalty, handling the ball in the box as the ball came in from a corner.
The Toffees then went 1-0 up in the second half through Ross Barkley, a deflected shot which sailed over keeper Adam Federici to give Everton the lead.
Romelu Lukaku then sealed the win, scoring from a corner which bundled through the Bournemouth players for the Belgian to smash the ball home.
Joel Robles - 8
Not much to do in the first-half before the Bournemouth penalty. McCarthy was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, Daniels stepped up to take the penalty which Joel saved to his left.
Apart from that, a Dan Gosling header in the second-half was straight at the Spaniard with the other odd save here and there. Commanded his area well and made yet another claim to be Everton’s no.1.
Seamus Coleman - 6
Not a vintage performance from Coleman today who didn’t exactly look comfortable at the back and the Irishman’s crossing was extremely poor today.
Ran the wing well but work rate alone is not enough for an attacking full-back.
Phil Jagielka - 8
Marshalled the defence well did the skipper, whose individual performance earns him an impressive rating.
Some important blocks and some impressive defending saw Bournemouth frustrated in attack and resorted to long range shots.
Four clean sheets in five is certainly an impressive return.
Funes Mori - 8
Similarly to Jagielka, the Argentinian put is some impressive blocks and looked solid throughout the match.
His partnership with the Everton captain has also given fans positivity with John Stones unable to break back into the team due to the pairs incredible form. Yet another good performance to add to the defenders collection.
Byran Oviedo - 6
Similarly to Coleman, looked a little shaky at the back while some of his attacks left a lot to be desired.
Could potentially be replaced by Leighton Baines in the future who looks much more assured at the back and with a better delivery into the box.
James McCarthy - 6.5
Poor first half from the Irishman, looked uncomfortable defending and also gave away the Bournemouth penalty which Joel had to save.
Decent enough performance from McCarthy in the second-half but much more needed from the midfielder if he is to keep Muhamed Besic out of the team when he returns from injury.
Gareth Barry - 8 (MOTM)
Brilliant from the veteran yet again, neat and tidy as we are used to seeing this season.
Runs the game from midfield and is very much the spearhead in attack alongside Ross Barkley. Doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon much to the joy of many Evertonian’s.
Aaron Lennon - 6
Didn’t notice the winger for most of the game who looked very much off the pace.
Was not able to run at the Bournemouth right-back such as he did against West Brom last week which left the forward very much ineffectual.
Albeit it difficult, Aaron ran his socks off and had a few chances on goal.
Ross Barkley - 7.5
Impressive performance from the youngster yet again, something Evertonian’s are used to this season.
Not the best of performances in the first half, losing the ball quite often and his link-up play with Lukaku lacking.
In the second-half it was very much a different story. The midfielder was running at the defence as often as possible and look dangerous throughout. Ross eventually got his goal as his shot deflected over Adam Federici in the Cherries net.
Tom Cleverley - 6
Really should not be played on the wing.
The midfielder struggled yet again in the wide position due to his lack of pace and it really showed, having to cut back inside onto his favoured right foot almost every time he got down the wing.
If Tom is to be in the team, he must be played centrally.
Romelu Lukaku - 7
Good from the Belgian today but it was another case of a lack of service for the striker this week.
Romelu’s first chance came in the first-half as he ran down the left wing to outpace the trailing defender, although he could not prod it past the Bournemouth keeper.
His goal came in the second-half as a corner beat all Bournemouth defenders, falling to the Belgian who smashed home from four yards out.
Substitutions
Kevin Mirallas – 6. Not able to make much of an impact in the little time he was on the pitch.
Oumar Niasse – 6. Same as Mirallas, not able to make much of an impression as Everton sat back to secure the win.
