Everton failed in Marcano swoop
According to A Bola, via Talksport, Everton failed in a deadline day swoop for Porto defender Ivan Marcano.
The report claims that Everton made a move to sign Marcano before last Thursday’s deadline, but they failed to agree a deal for the central defender.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman made no secret of his desire to add a left-sided central defender over the summer.
The club were unable to push one over the line, with Marcano having been lined up to sign this summer.
The report does, however, claim that Everton could return with another bid for him in January.
His contract expires at the end of the season, which means that Everton could agree a pre-contract agreement in January that sees him join the club for free next summer.
The 30-year-old impressed for Porto last season and clearly caught the eye of Ronald Koeman, who was looking for back-up to Ashley Williams and Michael Keane.
