Everton have reportedly been keeping tabs on Jamaal Lascelles’ progress at Newcastle this season.
According to a report from the Newcastle Chronicle, the Toffees are among a host of clubs who are keen to recruit the defender, who has come on leaps and bounds since leading his side back up to the Premier League.
Lascelles has been Newcastle’s captain this season and has been their standout performer, turning in mature displays at the back. His performances have led to reports that he is being considered by Gareth Southgate for an England call-up.
Everton have encountered several defensive problems this season and have struggled to form a regular, reliable partnership in central defence.
Lascelles’ leadership qualities have impressed many throughout the course of the season and it’s understood that he is held in extremely high regard at St James’ Park.
The former Nottingham Forest man signed a long-term contract with Newcastle earlier on in the season but could be tempted away from the club in the summer as a result of the Magpies’ limited funds.
Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Lascelles.
