French giants line up swoop for Everton goalkeeper
Lille are considering making an offer to Everton for backup goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, according to a report from France Football.
The 35-year-old joined Everton in 2016 but the arrival of Jordan Pickford last summer means he has very little chance of earning a starting role at Goodison Park in the near future.
Lille are looking for a backup goalkeeper of their own as they look for somebody to act as a number two behind their first-choice shot-stopper Mike Maignan and they are considering making a move for Stekelenburg.
Whether Everton would be willing to let the former Dutch international leave at this moment in time remains to be seen as they’ve already let Joel Robles leave to sign for Real Betis.
However, if the Blues can find another backup, perhaps one who’ll be on a smaller salary then Stekelenburg, then they will likely allow him to leave, should he decide that he fancies making a move to France.
