Everton failed in a deadline day move for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo because Jose Mourinho’s men failed to sign a replacement.
According to the Daily Mail, the Manchester United defender had emerged as a transfer target for the Toffees, who were searching for another central defender on the final day of the window.
Manchester United were also in the market for a central defender but were unwilling to lose Rojo before they had one through the door themselves.
United were linked with several ambitious moves for the likes of Jerome Boateng and Diego Godin, but neither deal came through.
Everton instead turned to moves for Yerry Mina and Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma.
The latter is set to join on loan from Chelsea after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge.
Mina joined the club from Barcelona on a permanent basis after an impressive World Cup with Colombia.
