Gareth Southgate has reiterated his desire to keep Ademola Lookman within the England set-up.

The Mirror reports that the Three Lions are keeping a close eye on the Everton winger, amid suggestions that he could switch alliances and play for Nigeria.

I know every country is quite aggressive in their recruiting and I know they have always had an interest in him, but he is playing and has been in our squads, the 20s, 21s. So in terms of encouragement through game time, we are doing as much as we possibly can.

Lookman has plenty of time to make a decision. He is yet to receive a senior call-up, meaning he has not featured in a competitive fixture for the Three Lions.

Despite being English-born, Lookman can play for Nigeria through his parents and the African side have become known for trying to poach some of the English youngsters who are eligible.

Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham was one of many players they tried to convince into the to switch before he turned down the opportunity and committed himself to England.

These reports are the latest developments in Lookman’s future, with the player having been linked with a permanent move to RB Leipzig throughout the summer after impressing on loan last season.
