Everton manager Marco Silva has revealed that summer signing Bernard could be set for his first Premier League start against Leicester on Saturday.
The former Brazil international has impressed in the past week, assisting Gylfi Sigurdsson’s second goal in a short spell against Fulham last weekend, and being one of the few bright sparks against Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
Having signed as a free agent in the summer after leaving Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk when his contract expired, Bernard has so far been restricted to small cameos, in part because he hasn’t played a great amount of football in 2018.
Now though, Silva believes he is ready to step up and line-up against the Foxes on Saturday.
When asked about whether the 26-year old could start at the King Power in his pre-match press conference, Silva said:
It is possible. He is working really hard.
Richarlison and Theo are doing a really good job. Lookman and Bernard are different but are ready to help the team.
Silva also praised Bernard’s contribution against Southampton in midweek, while acknowledging that he is aware of fan expectations. He continued:
The two wingers, Bernard and Lookman, were the best players on the pitch as well.
I am Everton manager. I know what the fans expect: to go through competitions and win titles too.
In that moment, that competition, I want to win the match. I took the decision not to play Gylfi because you have to take care of some of the players.
