Sigurdsson and Gomes had been called up by Iceland and Portugal respectively, but both will not travel to join up with their national teams and instead, they’ll stay on Merseyside to get treatment as Everton hope to have them both fit to face Cardiff City on November 24th.
Sigurdsson was seemingly hurt following a reckless challenge from Chelsea’s Jorginho, but the reason behind Gomes’ withdrawal is less clear.
The Portuguese FA have released a statement which said that the midfielder was deemed not fit enough to play for his country by the national team’s medical staff, but there was no specific injury mentioned.
