Everton suffered late heartbreak at Anfield as Liverpool narrowly clinched a 1-0 win.
The Toffees turned in a resilient display in what was an evenly-matched fixture.
Marco Silva’s men were solid throughout and appeared to have been good value for their away point and clean sheet in the first Merseyside derby of the season.
However, after a calamitous error from Jordan Pickford, Liverpool substitute Divock Origi was on hand to prod home into an empty net, sending Anfield into raptures deep into stoppage time.
It was a cruel way to end a polished display from the travelling Toffees. Here are our player ratings for Everton.
Jordan Pickford - 5
Made some good stops but cost Everton the match in the dying stages.
Seamus Coleman - 6
He was defensively solid but his final ball often went awry.
Michael Keane - 8
A resilient performance from Keane as he snuffed out the Liverpool attack’s threat.
Yerry Mina - 7
Missed a golden chance to net but was solid throughout.
Lucas Digne - 8
Digne continues to impress. He offered Everton an outlet on the left and was defensively sound.
Idrissa Gueye - 5
Looked out of his depth at times, despite his constant harrying and tenacity off the ball.
Andre Gomes - 9
The best player on the pitch. Gomes was breathtaking on the ball at times and very nearly handed Everton the lead with a close-range header.
Theo Walcott - 5
Walcott again failed to convince and didn’t really trouble Andy Robertson.
Gylfi Sigurdsson - 5
Worked hard but offered little in the final third.
Bernard - 7
Bernard looked promising. He was energetic and always looked to carry the ball forward.
Richarlison - 5
Liverpool nullified his threat well, with the Brazilian failing to influence the game.
Ademola Lookman – 7: Sharp upon his introduction. Looked to create and was inventive in the second half.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – N/A: Wasn’t on for long enough to make an impact.
Kurt Zouma – N/A: Also had no time to be impactful.
