Fleetwood Town technical director Gretar Steinnsson has left his role and is expected to join Everton’s recruitment team, according to Fleetwood Weekly News.
The former Iceland international will link-up with director of football Marcel Brands, in a bid to increase Everton’s recruitment of Football League talent.
While neither club has confirmed the move yet, FWN understand that Fleetwood will receive compensation.
The former Bolton defender joined the Fishermen as technical director in 2015, and has worked alongside a number of managers over his three years in the role.
However, Steinsson’s role changed considerably after the arrival of Joey Barton last summer, with the former England international wanting much more control over transfers.
Since his appointment, Steinsson hasn’t been involved with the first-team, instead focussing on the club’s academy.
With Everton keen to continue increasing their recruitment within the lower leagues of English football, Steinsson’s appointment serves as another positive move under Farhad Moshiri’s regime.
