On Friday, we ran a duel asking Everton fans to vote for who they think the club’s greatest ever footballer is.
The Toffees have not been particularly impressive in the past few years, but their history boasts a selection of exceptional footballers, with many leaving their mark on the club.
Take a look at how the participating Everton supporters voted for the club’s best ever player, as we count down the top five highest-voted options!
5. Tim Cahill (36%)
Cahill came in at fifth place. He established his status as a cult hero for Everton during the Premier League era.
4. Howard Kendall (46%)
Kendall, who later became the manager of Everton, was voted as the club’s fourth greatest ever footballer.
3. Neville Southall (76%)
Legendary goalkeeper Southall took a considerable chunk of the votes but could only rank as the third best ever Everton player in our duel.
2. Alan Ball (77%)
Ahead of Southall by the tightest of margins, the participating Toffees supporters voted Ball as in second place.
1. Dixie Dean (89%)
The player who comprehensively came out on top was Dixie Dean. After taking 89% of the votes, he was voted as Everton’s greatest ever footballer by the participants.
