Marco Silva has named his Everton team to face Southampton this afternoon, and it has generated a mixture of responses from plenty of Everton fans.

Cenk Tosun has been handed his first start of the season, while Morgan Schneiderlin and Gylfi Sigurdsson come back into the line-up, replacing Fabian Delph and Alex Iwobi respectively.

Moise Kean has been left out of the match-day squad, and it is not yet known whether that is tactical or through injury, while talented starlet Anthony Gordon finally makes the bench.

While some fans were happy to see Tosun play and Gordon get his chance from the bench, others were questioning Kean’s absence, and criticising Silva’s decision to play Schneiderlin over young players like Beni Baningime.

Silva’s decision to drop Iwobi for Sigurdsson was another point of contention for some fans, who feel that the Nigeria international has been harshly dropped.

Taking to Twitter, a number of fans expressed their opinion on Silva’s team selection to face the Saints.

I am perplexed and frustrated to see Moise Kean having now disappeared out of the squad completely, and I have to believe it is down to a knock he has picked up, otherwise it is unforgivable.

I’m personally glad to see Cenk Tosun get a chance, and Anthony Gordon on the bench is positive, but Alex Iwobi being dropped is absurd. He is clearly our most promising attacking player behind the striker, and with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin on the field at the same time, we will devoid of pace and energy in midfield.

Fingers crossed and that, but it isn’t the most positive line-up.
