The Toffees finally wielded the axe on Marco Silva after a 5-2 loss to Liverpool on Wednesday night saw them drop into the relegation zone of the Premier League.
Silva’s position at Goodison Park had been under scrutiny for some time, and defeat in the Merseyside Derby proved to be the final nail in the coffin.

Everton have begun their hunt for a new permanent first-team manager, but in the meantime, a club legend will be tasked with leading the squad.
Ferguson, who has been working among the Toffees’ backroom staff for some time now, will hope to inspire the team to claim an unlikely result against Chelsea on Sunday.
It’s a short-term fix, but little else would have been expected. Perhaps the arrival of David Moyes is not far away, or perhaps Everton will decide to look elsewhere for new inspiration.
Either way, the change needed to be made. Whether or not it will prove to be too late, however, remains to be seen.
