Mikel Arteta is not considering leaving Manchester City amid speculated interest from Everton, according to reports.

The former Everton midfielder has emerged as a managerial target for both Everton and Arsenal, who are considering handing the talented coach his first managerial job.

The 37-year old has built a reputation for himself as a talented future manager under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, with City said to be grooming him to replace his compatriot.

Having sacked Marco Silva on Thursday, Everton will be on the hunt for a new long-term boss and Arteta has been named by some reports as being on a shortlist for the job.

However, despite having expressed his desire to become a Premier League manager, Arteta is not thought to be planning on any immediate departure from the defending Premier League champions.

According to the Athletic (via Mirror Sport), Arteta has not discussed leaving City with the club, feeling both that he should show a sense of loyalty to Guardiola and that he can continue honing his craft at the Etihad.

While he hasn’t publicly ruled out a move completely, it does seem unlikely that Arteta would join Everton this month.

I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing for Everton, as Arteta shouldn’t be considered the man to appoint at this current moment in time.

Everton need to appoint one of two managers, either a) an experienced mercenary who can do a short-term job fixing some of the club’s issues or, b) a long-term project manager who has experience but also plenty of potential.

Everton don’t want to be handing the ropes to a newcomer, and whereas Arteta could be a revelation, it simply isn’t worth the gamble with the Toffees in the relegation zone.
