Warnock speaks out after loan move for Everton outcast collapses

Former Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie saw a move to Middlesbrough on loan collapse on deadline day.

Bolasie was close to linking up with his former manager at Palace, Neil Warnock, at Boro according to Sky Sports.

Since the passing of the deadline, Warnock has portioned the blame of the breakdown of a deal as the fault of Bolasie and his agent. Asked what happened with Bolasie, Warnock said: “Many things really. I’m disappointed we didn’t get him. That’s life

“Numerous things happened in the afternoon, it wasn’t to be. Yes, I’m disappointed but we move on.

“I thought we had him most of the day but problems cropped up and we couldn’t get it over the line, it was too late.

“He was disappointed but he was partly to blame. There was things I should have known before 4 o clock about his problems at Everton and they were problems we couldn’t overcome.

“I’ve asked him why I didn’t know about this beforehand and he said he told his agent. I said why didn’t the agent tell us, he was talking to Neil (Bausor) quite a lot.”

Asked what the problems were, Warnock said: “Not for you to know.”

The 31-year-old was also on the cusp of joining Boro two years ago but opted instead for a loan spell with Aston Villa instead.

The DR Congo international joined Everton from Palace for £25m in August 2016 but has featured just 32 times for Everton in four years. His last appearance for the club came back in May 2018.

Bolasie had a few loan spells over the course of the past two seasons out on loan, having spells with Villa, Anderlecht and Sporting Lisbon.

He has less than a year remaining on his contract at Everton and will be free to talk over a free transfer to other clubs in January. There is no indication that Everton will preserve his value by extending his contract.

There can be no doubt that Bolasie is an offensive outcast at Goodison Park.

Having fallen out of favour – failing to feature in any competitive game until February – the Everton board will suffer as a consequence of the failure to get the Congolese international off their wage bill.

A failure to secure a move to Boro represents a blow to Bolasie’s chances for Bolasie to rekindle his career as Everton look to move on players deemed surplus to requirements.

For Ancelotti’s side, they will be unlucky to have to keep the former Palace player on their books. Bolasie is unlikely to feature with the first team in what is a fruitless situation for all parties.
