The French international was instrumental in the Blues’ win over Wolves on Tuesday night as his guided cross was met by Alex Iwobi superbly on the half-volley for the opening goal. That striker and a late headed winner from Michael Keane sandwiched a well-worked Wolves goal from Ruben Neves.
Digne had only just returned from a training ground injury he sustained after the Toffees’ 3-2 win over Fulham earlier in the season.
Without top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin to call upon, Carlo Ancelotti curiously fielded a team with no natural strikers in the starting XI but had two centre-forwards in Ellis Simms and Cenk Tosun on the bench.
Meanwhile, former Blues maestro Ross Barkley offered keen praise for Digne’s creative display, tweeting his praise for the Frenchman’s “wand of a left foot”. The ex-Barcelona defender replied with gratitude, saying “Thank you bro” along with an accompaniment of emojis.
Thank you bro 🤪✌🏼💙

Having spent eight years at Goodison Park, Barkley departed to join Chelsea in 2018 – a move which still seems to rankle among many Evertonians, judging by the replies to the Barkley-Digne Twitter exchange. However, some fans were more conciliatory towards the England midfielder…
