Everton are in the fifth round of the FA Cup following a resounding 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday – but that wasn’t the only tie to which Toffees fans were paying close attention.

Tottenham’s 4-1 thumping of Wycombe Wanderers last night means that the Toffees have had a lucrative tie set up for them in two weeks’ time.

When Spurs yielded their result – automatically setting up the tie set to be played in the week commencing 8th February – many Everton fans were immediately reminded of the side’s previous encounter this season.

The two teams met on the opening weekend of the 2020/21 Premier League in what was a commanding display from Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Everton kept a clean sheet and wrapped up all three points thanks to a headed goal from talismanic forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, set up by left-back Lucas Digne.

Calvert-Lewin’s goal was enough to secure Everton’s first league win over Spurs since December 2012, handing Mourinho his first opening day defeat in the Premier League.

Many Everton fans were fearless in their assessment of the tie, generally expressing optimism as the Merseysiders look to reach the business end of the competition.
