Wingers Raheem Sterling and one-time top Everton target Wilfried Zaha have taken to social media to congratulate Andros Townsend on his move to Goodison Park.

The 13-cap England international and Spurs academy product has penned a two-year deal with the Blues following the expiration of his contract with Crystal Palace this summer.

He had previously spent five years at Palace following his 2016 move from then-relegated Newcastle when the Magpies were managed by new Everton boss Rafa Benitez.

Townsend took to his personal Instagram account to share his thoughts on the move and to show off his new colours following his fresh terms with the Blues.

“Excited and honoured to start a new chapter at Everton Football Club”, read the caption.

“To the Evertonians, I can promise you that I’ll give my absolute all for the badge and leave everything out there to make sure this club achieves the success it deserves.

“This is a huge club and I understand what it means to play here and I can’t wait to get started and walk out on that pitch at Goodison.”

He then signed off with a ‘NSNO 🔵💙’ in reference to the Blues’ motto, Nil Satis, Nisi Optimum.

As shared by Goodison News, recognisable home-grown talents in Sterling and Zaha took to social media to respond to Townsend’s post.

Raheem Sterling, who was England’s top scorer at Euro 2020, issued his congratulations in the comments whilst Townsend’s former teammate Wilfried Zaha shared Townsend’s post on his personal story.

‘Good luck my guy’, read Zaha’s response.

The Ivorian was hotly linked with a £50 million switch from Selhurst Park to the Toffees a handful of summers ago, but Palace rebuffed the package being offered.

It is a little too soon to be speculating over ‘agent Townsend’ in relation to Zaha responding to his former teammate’s Everton move, with both men clearly enjoying a close friendship.

However, Zaha’s coincidental links to Everton in the past have certainly made for interesting viewing for Evertonians.
