Former Everton winger Bernard has dropped a cryptic hint in his farewell message following his confirmation that he has left the Toffees to join Emirati side Sharjah.

Bernard had previously fuelled speculation over a Goodison Park exit following a similarly confusing message dropped in the comments section of an Instagram post by Lucas Digne.

An exit has since been confirmed with Sharjah confirming the transfer via their Twitter handle.

In another strange occurrence, Everton are yet to make an official announcement about the 28-year-old ex-Shakhtar Donetsk man.

Taking to Instagram, Bernard issued a statement that appears to pour scorn on the club. Part of it read:

“Unfortunately you who support me and not those who appear here to spread the words of hate DON’T KNOW HALF of what happens behind the scenes.

“I wanted to be more clear but unfortunately TODAY I can’t, the message I leave today is of gratitude and you will always be special.”

Bernard was one of the club’s highest earners following his free transfer from the Ukrainian side, but made just two starts in the Premier League last season, struggling to reach double figures in terms of goals and assists in his Toffees career.

The club has confirmed that another left-sided winger in Demarai Gray has joined the club, filling the void left by Bernard’s departure.

The home-grown winger has joined up with Everton’s pre-season training camp in Florida under the tutelage of Rafa Benitez.

He joins up with new signings Asmir Begovic and Andros Townsend.

Bernard appears to tease out a behind-the-scenes conflict at Everton but saves face by refusing to elaborate.

Such a comment is slightly unprofessional, though fans will likely not be hung up on a bombshell that remains anything but unleashed into the public domain.

With Everton selling a high earner and bringing in a cost-effective home-grown replacement, Everton have sealed a shrewd deal for all parties concerned.
