Everton boss Rafa Benitez has not hidden his displeasure in the lack of support from the club’s management. The Toffees’ performances in the first half of the 2021/22 English Premier League season have been dismal, despite a promising start under the former Liverpool boss.

There is a lot of talk regarding player transfers, and we will be looking at some of the players likely to join Everton this January.

David Neres

According to French publication Jeunes Footeux, Everton are interested in acquiring Ajax striker David Neres this month. The 24-year-old Brazil international is also targeted by Newcastle United and French side Lyon, who see him as a potential replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Toffees are looking to strengthen their offensive ranks before the January transfer window closes, and while Neres is valued at £17 million, Jeunes Footeux believes he might be available for less due to his contract status and lack of playing opportunities.

Everton have signed defensive pair Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson for less than £15 million to reinforce at left-back and right-back, respectively, and being able to recruit the Ajax star for less than £15 million this winter would be a massive coup.

With only 18 months left on his contract, the Eredivisie club may be willing to cash in on him while his worth is still high.

Dejan Kulusevski

According to rumors in Italy, Everton is one of the suitors for Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski, who is also being targeted by both Tottenham and Arsenal.

Everton are expressing greater financial ambition this month after a relatively quiet summer transfer window in which they sought bargain players. The signings of Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson have already been completed.

They are unlikely to stop there, as they are also looking to recruit another winger. With the acquisitions of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend in the summer, they had already addressed the problem. Rafael Benitez, on the other hand, still wants one more, and Kulusevski would be a good match.

Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos

Everton are considering a January transfer window raid on MLS champions New York City FC for the signing of Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos.

According to reports, Rafa Benitez is considering striker additions because he fears losing Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Spaniard wants them both to stay, but understands that their futures are uncertain. As a result, the Blues have compiled a shortlist of possible centre-forward targets, with two in particular in mind.

Alexis Sanchez

According to reports, Everton has been offered an opportunity to sign Inter Milan winger Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer this January.

Inter Milan plan to release the Chilean winger and his huge pay to make room in their squad, and the Toffees are rumored to be interested in bringing him in to improve their attacking options.

With leading marksmen Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison both constantly linked with potential exits, this would be a means to mitigate the effect of their departures, but if it happens, it certainly won’t be the most popular move.

Since returning to Serie A on loan in August 2019, Sanchez has only scored 14 goals in 86 appearances.
