Everton had a rather busy previous summer transfer window in terms of the number of new players that made their way to Goodison Park.

One player that joined in this period that the Toffees spent a significant amount of money on is Amadou Onana.

Signed from Lille in a deal worth a reported fee of £33m, the midfielder has now become an important figure in Frank Lampard’s side as he has started all of Everton’s five previous league games.

Another interesting factor about this signing is the fact that the Merseyside club managed to beat their fellow Premier League side, West Ham United, to Onana’s signature.

This shows how ruthless Everton can be in the transfer market and how that can be beneficial for the team, as the midfielder only has five other outfield players at the club with higher performance ratings than him from WhoScored (6.86/10).

Looking ahead to the next transfer window, one player that has previously been linked with a move to Goodison that we feel the club should try their best to sign is Cody Gakpo.

With the PSV Eindhoven winger being linked with numerous clubs in the Premier League, a move for the Dutchman would give Everton and Kevin Thelwell to replicate a similar sort of masterclass they pulled off by signing Onana and beating their top-flight colleagues to get him.

In 212 appearances for PSV across their senior and youth teams, the 23-year-old has 79 goals and 53 assists under his belt.

This backs up why he has recently been labelled as a “sensational” player by Sam Tighe.

With recent reports claiming that Manchester United are now keen on signing the winger, this is the challenge that Everton may have to overcome this time around to land Gakpo, as they had to do with West Ham over Onana.

Taking into account his clear attacking talent, launching a move to sign the PSV star, who apparently has a price tag of £40m, is definitely something that Thelwell should see as a top priority for Everton.
