Everton: Kevin Campbell drops verdict on potential Hirving Lozano move
Everton were linked with a transfer move for Napoli attacker Hirving Lozano last month alongside some other clubs across Europe.
With the next January transfer approaching, it appears as though a former Goodison Park figure has shared their thoughts on potentially seeing the Toffees make a move for the winger.
Speaking to Goodison News, Kevin Campbell gave his verdict on Lozano and the possibility of him joining Frank Lampard’s side.
He said: “Very direct player, skilful, but he’s not a goalscorer.
“He’s a winger. You need somebody in the middle who can finish, that’s the key.
“It’s not as if Everton don’t create chances. Everton create chances, but they need to take them.
“So would it be a good signing? Yes, it would be, but you’re still going to need a striker.”
After scoring 40 goals and delivering 23 assists in 79 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, the 27-year-old joined Napoli back in the 2019 summer transfer window.
Since then, the Mexican has found the net 29 times and supplied 14 assists in 127 appearances across all competitions.
With 10 Serie A appearances under his belt so far this season, Lozano has scored two goals and provided one assist.
To further highlight his attacking talent, the winger has the second-highest number of carries into the 18-yard box (11) at the club as well as the joint-highest number of completed crosses into the 18-yard box (8).
While Everton already have four predominant wingers in their squad, it’s hard to deny that the £112k-per-week Napoli figure would be a good addition to Lampard’s ranks based on his attacking ability as Campbell mentioned.
Moving forward, if Everton feel that Lozano would be a useful signing for them and give their current wingers some competition, they should definitely explore the possibility of bringing the player to Goodison Park.
