Young Everton prospect Ellis Simms can follow in the footsteps of Moise Kean in kickstarting his career out on loan from Goodison Park, having today completed a move to Blackpool.

Everton confirmed on Wednesday that the 20-year-old has joined the League One outfit on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

He has managed eight goals in 12 Premier League 2 games for the Toffees’ under-23s this season and has been included in senior matchday squads under Ancelotti in recent months, having been training regularly with the first team.

Indeed, Everton seem to be making a habit of loaning out 20-year-old strikers. Simms may well hope to follow in the footsteps of PSG loanee Moise Kean, who has thrived with regular Ligue 1 minutes.

Whilst Blackpool might not exactly be of the same calibre as the Champions League finalists, respect must be given. The Tangerines can hopefully offer regular minutes to Simms whilst Kean seems to set the standards for what can be achieved with a fresh start out on loan.

The Italian prospect has scored nine goals in just 14 Ligue 1 outings, and 11 in 20 games altogether for PSG, and looks to be a reliable scorer in spite of his relative inexperience. Having netted just four times in 37 Everton appearances, his loan move to Paris certainly seems to be having the desired effect.

As always with loans for young prospects, Blackpool can be a meaningful litmus test for Simms’ career. It is self-evident that a move would not have been sanctioned if all parties did not feel Simms could impress in League One.

Everton fans would be best-placed watching Simms’ progress closely. His squad role is indicative of a player who is highly regarded at Everton, and Blackpool is the first part of a process of well-thought development.

Having seen his Toffees teammate Kean thrive in Ligue 1, hopefully this 20-year-old striker can use the Italian as inspiration for an equally productive loan spell at Bloomfield Road.
