# Ancelotti claims Everton won’t sign striker in January

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that he will not be asking Everton to sign him a new striker in January.

It had been speculated that the Toffees would look to sign a new forward in January, with the long term future of both Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse looking uncertain.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done a steady job up front in recent weeks, while Moise Kean has still yet to score his first goal for the club, with Richarlison being pushed forward instead of the Italian.

However, while Ancelotti didn’t comment on the future of either Tosun or Niasse, he did suggest that with the club currently possessing an abundance of talent, that he wouldn’t need to invest in a striker in January.

When asked whether he would approach the club and ask them to buy him a striker in January, [as reported by Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11671/11895746/carlo-ancelotti-doesnt-plan-to-sign-a-striker-for-everton-in-january), Ancelotti said:

> No. We didn’t talk about this but for sure I am not asking for a striker because the strikers up front are really good.
>
> I think until January 5 we have to be focused on these next four games and after that we can talk \[about\] if we need something or not.

### Read Everton Verdict

This isn’t entirely strange to me, although I had expected Ancelotti to explore signing a forward.

Everton have plenty of strikers currently at the club from a numerical standpoint, and unless the club see both Niasse and Tosun leave, they won’t have much room in the squad for a new recruit.

That said, the club could certainly benefit from someone with more experience in that department, as all three of the club’s principle forward options are 22 or younger.

Olivier Giroud has been a name that has cropped up online, and I can’t help but feel that someone like him could prove to be really useful and influential in the squad.
