# Ancelotti has asked Everton to sign ex-Liverpool defender Klavan

Everton are interested in signing former Liverpool centre-back Ragnar Klavan, according to reports.

The Estonian centre-back is currently plying his trade with Cagliari in Italy’s Serie A, having left the Reds in 2018.

The 34-year old had attracted Everton’s attention prior to signing for Liverpool in 2016, and now BlogCagliariCalcio.net ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/former-liverpool-defender-crosshairs-everton-ancelotti-asked-club-probe-possibility-transfer/)) claim that Carlo Ancelotti wants to make him his first signing as Toffees boss.

The report claims that Ancelotti has specifically requested that Everton move for the defender, asking for the club to ‘probe the possibility’ of bringing him to Goodison Park this month.

While Everton have yet to make a formal approach for the Estonia international, the centre-back has been made aware of the club’s interest in his services.

Everton are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, with Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane currently the only senior options on Merseyside.

### Read Everton Verdict

Aside from the fact that Klavan previously rejected Everton’s interest in favour or Liverpool, Klavan is someone who the Blues should stay well clear of.

Not only is he way past his best at 34-years old, but he also doesn’t add a degree of quality that Everton are missing. He wouldn’t supplant either of Yerry Mina or Mason Holgate, meaning he would be a signing for the sake of having more numbers in the swuad.

I would much rather Everton took their time to find the right target, or that they splash out on someone more high profile with more bonafide quality, than settle on someone like Klavan.
