# Ancelotti spoke with Usmanov before agreeing to Everton offer

Carlo Ancelotti spoke to former Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov before agreeing to become Everton manager, according to reports.

Various outlets had reported on Monday that Ancelotti had agreed to become Marco Silva’s successor at Goodison Park, with an announcement anticipated to arrive before Everton face Arsenal at the weekend.

[Telegraph Sport report](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/12/16/everton-hopeful-closing-deal-secure-carlo-ancelotti-next-manager/) that Ancelotti has agreed to a four-and-a-half year contract on Merseyside, with the three-time Champions League winner representing the ‘Hollywood’ managerial appointment that owner Farhad Moshiri has long wanted.

However, if Italian media are to be believed, Moshiri should thank his long time business partner Usmanov for convincing the Italian coach to join the Toffees.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport ([via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-reached-agreement-night-new-manager/)), Ancelotti had a ‘decisive meeting’ with Usmanov before making a decision, and Moshiri was also considered ‘instrumental’ too.

Given Usmanov’s relationship with Moshiri and with the Russian now also free from his Arsenal commitments, it has frequently been speculated that Usmanov could join his close friend at Everton.

Usmanov already sponsors Everton’s training ground through his company USM Holdings, and Toffees fans have long dreamt of the day that Usmanov begins pumping some of his $12.4billion net worth into the club.

While Usmanov has never claimed to be interested in investing in Everton, fans could be forgiven for seeing his involvement with Ancelotti as a sign that the magnate is at the very least interested in the club going forward.

### Read Everton Verdict

Personally I can’t see Usmanov committing to Everton any time soon, as much as I’d like to see the club’s transfer budget increase drastically, but this story is bizarre if nothing is in the pipeline.

Usmanov has been lurking around Everton for some time now, refusing to come in and join the party, and I can’t see why Ancelotti would speak to him unless he plans on becoming involved in the immediate future.

While Ancelotti is a huge appointment from Moshiri, one the Everton owner should be credited for, there appears to be other interesting things occurring behind the scenes at Everton at the minute.
