# Andre Gomes receives Portugal re-call – Fans have injury concerns

Andre Gomes has received an international re-call for Portugal, following his return from injury.

The midfielder missed three Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Manchester City last month through a rib injury, making his return as a late substitute against Burnley last weekend.

The 26-year old will join up with the Portugal squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Luxembourg and Ukraine.Gomes replaces midfielder and former Everton target William Carvalho, who has withdrawn through injury.

While Gomes’ inclusion is a positive indicator of his fitness levels, many Everton fans are concerned about the call-up and reacted as such on social media, drawing from Everton’s poor record with international injuries.

### Read Everton Verdict

I particularly echo that last tweet’s sentiment, it is great for the player but no such a positive thing for Everton who would have preferred him to remain at Finch Farm over the next week.

All we can hope for is that he succeeds when he plays, but more importantly, he remains injury free.
