# Aston Villa have made ‘serious attempts’ to sign Cenk Tosun

Aston Villa have made an approach to sign Cenk Tosun this month, according to reports.

The Turkey international has frequently been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this month, with separate reports this week linking the striker with an imminent move to [Besiktas](https://readeverton.com/2020/01/07/cenk-tosun-edges-closer-to-besiktas-loan-return/) and to [Crystal Palace](https://readeverton.com/2020/01/04/tosun-appears-set-for-crystal-palace-loan/).

Everton are expected to allow Tosun to leave the club shortly, with the 28-year old having fallen behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean in the pecking order.

Now Turkish outlet Orta Cizgi ([via Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-tosun-17540033)) claim that the Villans are very interested in the forward, with Dean Smith’s side making ‘serious attempts’ to bring him to Villa Park.

The report claims that Palace have made the same effort, and that Tosun would prefer to remain in the Premier League if he does leave Everton before the window closes.

Aston Villa recently [lost summer signing Wesley Moraes](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50967340) for the remainder of the season after he suffered a knee injury, while Keinan Davis and Jonathan Kodjia are both out of action with an injury and illness respectively.

As such, Birmingham Live claim that Villa want to have a striker signing in time to face Manchester City on Sunday, so a move could be fast-tracked by the Midlands club.

### Read Everton Verdict

I personally think this move would make a lot of sense for all parties involved. Everton have no immediate need for Tosun with him far down the pecking order, and it will be difficult to shift him on a permanent basis because of his high wages.

Villa are in desperate need of a striker as they seek to avoid relegation from the top flight, and Tosun wants guaranteed minutes ahead of Euro 2020, which he would surely get at Villa Park.

If Tosun does want to remain in the Premier League, Villa are a club with a rich history, passionate supporters, and he could do far worse than join the Midlands side.
