Baines Apologises For ‘No Chemistry’ Remarks

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that Leighton Baines has apologised to him and the team for saying that Everton are playing without chemistry.

The words came after Everton’s 1-0 away defeat to Manchester United, the club’s third Premier League defeat in a row, leaving them in 12th in the table.

Baines was quoted saying;

I just don’t feel as though the chemistry is quite there with the team on the pitch at the moment, and it hasn’t been for a while,

Results have an impact on that because chemistry and confidence go hand in hand, if you start winning games.

Roberto Martinez, who is starting to come under scrutiny in his role as manager after a frustrating and ultimately disappointing season, expressed that the matter has been dealt with.

The Blues boss stated;

I’ve had a chat with him and he knows he has to take responsibility for those words,

He has put himself in a position where he has given the wrong words. He’s apologised and we will move forward. The time for talking is on the pitch.

Everton, however, are in the semi-final of the FA Cup and will be looking to be in the final come the end of May. Some suggest that Martinez’s future could be discussed at the end of the season, but an FA Cup win could quash those suggestions.

Despite not having too much left to play for in the league, Martinez was adamant that his team would fight to win every game left.

“We need to make sure we finish the league really strong. We have a lot of points to fight for.”
