# Calvert-Lewin brace against Wednesday encourages Everton fans

Dominic Calvert-Lewin took his personal goal tally for the season to three goals from seven games against Sheffield Wednesday last night, scoring a brace as Everton progressed to the next round of the competition.

DCL smashed his first in off the underside of the bar after a superb long range ball from Djibril Sidibe was met with a thunderous volley, while Alex Iwobi put the ball on a plate for the former Sheffield United man to double the Blues’ lead after just ten minutes.

Having faced criticism from some sections of the Everton fan base this season, DCL’s Carabao Cup double will hopefully have given him a boost in confidence ahead of this weekend’s Premier League tie against Manchester City.

Everton are in desperate need of some league points, and while City are the one club that Toffees fans wish the club weren’t about to play next, Pep Guardiola’s side have shown that they are not invulnerable this season, having already lost to Norwich.

Several fans took to social media to congratulate Calvert-Lewin on his cup brace, which he scored on his 100th appearance for Everton.

It is great for Dom’s own personal confidence to see him grabbing two goals, and hopefully that’ll benefit Everton in the short-term.

At the end of the day, the most important thing from the Wednesday game was competition progression. Everton needed to get the win, no matter how ugly it had to be, and get the win they did. DCL’s brace is the cherry on top, and hopefully he will take some confidence from the result into the next game this weekend.
